What types of Dalmatians are there?
Traditional the Dalmatian breed coat is white with black spots. However the Liver Dalmatians have a coat white coat with brown spots. Typically dark brown. (Example can be seen in photo!) There are also Lemon, Tri, and Long Coat Dalmatians.
Are Dalmatians aggressive?
Dalmatians were originally bred to guard the horses and run by coaches, therefore some of the old protective instincts still remain. True to their heritage, Dalmatians are known to have a natural harmony with horses. Some Dalmatians can become protective of their owners and family members, as it is in their nature. Some Dalmatians can be reactive or show aggression toward unfamiliar people or dogs. (More commonly by Untrained Intact Male Dalmatians.) If experiencing aggressive behaviors it is advised to seek a behavioral dog trainer. This may help to reduce or correct regressive behaviors.
Are Dalmatians good family dogs?
Dalmatians are very energetic, playful and sensitive dogs. Dalmatian character traits are intelligence, loyalty and affection especially toward their family members. They are known as “Velcro Dogs”. Dalmatians can be aloof with strangers but can be very dependable watchdogs. Dalmatians are great for active families or families with very large back yards.
Are Dalmatians difficult to train?
Dalmatians have very strong character. The Dalmatian breed works best with Positive Reinforcement Training Tactics. Examples using reward systems with treats, praise, toys, for desired behaviors. Dalmatians are highly intelligent creators so command training may come moderately easy. Dalmatians are not only intelligent, but they also have excellent memories. (In my personal experience it only takes a few training commands to instill retention.) My clients have found training Dalmatian puppies to be manageable and exciting. However, training Dalmatians can be considered laborious.

How do I keep my Dalmatian from Getting bored?
Plenty of exercise, social interaction and intellectual stimulation. Training, plenty of toys, chew toys, bones, and frequent walks.
Do Dalmatians shed a lot? When should I bathe my Dalmatian?
Dalmatians do shed, but it is relatively low. Most Dalmatians have a short coat. Brushing and grooming can reduce shedding in Dalmatians. Dalmatian's do require regular bathing and grooming. (We recommend this to be done weekly or bi- weekly.)
